Boston, MA – Florence-trained, Marblehead artist Jonathan Sherman is exhibiting three bronze portraits from his series “Great Thinkers Throughout the World and Ages” at the Jeremiah Lee Mansion. The sculptures will be on view in the garden from June 16 – July 31, 2022. The Lee Mansion, one of the most important examples of Georgian architecture in the country, is a natural venue for Jonathan’s work, as they both stand for and embody the Renaissance ideals of beauty and harmony.

The portraits in this summer’s exhibit are of Leonardo da Vinci, Confucius and Hypatia of Alexandria – a fabled philosopher, astronomer and the first recorded female mathematician. Jonathan created the sculpture series to spread appreciation for our innate opportunity to think, and to utilize it for our betterment as individuals, as a society and on a global scale.

“My works of Art are all created from a very deep love for human beings and the human experience. This series is being created with total reverence for the process these individuals underwent to unlock their innate magnificence, allowing them to contribute meaningfully to the collective. I was inspired to celebrate those who successfully aligned themselves with their wisdom, dedicated their lives to allowing it to flow through their unique means of expression, and ultimately made invaluable contributions to humanity from which we continue to benefit today.”

Jonathan Sherman’s artwork has been purchased and commissioned by individuals and corporations throughout the United States and in Europe, including the band Reed & Caroline (VeryRecords), and Hotel Tournabuoni in Florence, Italy. Eight of his works are in the Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo Collection, and he has recently been commissioned to create six bronze sculptures for the corporate collection of Maddox & Partners in Naples. SCULPTOR JONATHAN SHERMAN HONORS LEONARDO DA VINCI IN CELEBRATION OF 500 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
For Immediate Release - 10/16/19

Contact: Elizabeth Sherman / inquiry@studiojonathansherman.com or (781) 502-8822

Boston, MA - Sculptor Jonathan Sherman has completed a life-size bronze bust of Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci in honor of the 500-year anniversary of the artist’s death. The bust is an open edition and measures 25.5”x 16” x 12”.

“Leonardo has been a guiding light for me for many years. I have studied thoroughly with the mind of an artist all of his drawings and paintings, which have awoken within me a richer appreciation for the subtleties of the world in which I live,” said Sherman. “Through my intimacy with Leonardo’s work, coupled with having lived for many years in the center of Florence, Italy, the city that supported Leonardo’s early artistic development, a spiritual kinship was fostered between myself and the Renaissance master. This enabled me to endow the portrait with a sense of his spirit, in addition to a physical likeness.”

The anniversary is being celebrated with events throughout 2019, including major exhibitions at The Queen’s Gallery in Buckingham Palace and the Louvre Museum.

The first casting of the sculpture has been purchased by Maddox & Partners of Naples, Florida, and will be exhibited in their upcoming outdoor wine & sculpture garden in the Bayshore Arts District of Naples, Florida. Five additional bronze busts, part of Jonathan Sherman’s “Great Thinkers” series, have been commissioned by Ms. Maddox and will be installed in the wine park to accompany the acquisition of the da Vinci sculpture.

Jonathan Sherman’s artwork has been purchased and commissioned by individuals and corporations throughout the United States and in Europe, including the band Reed & Caroline (VeryRecords), and Hotel Tournabuoni in Florence, Italy. Seven of his works are in the Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo Collection, and two of his works are in the collection of Robert Freson.
